Overview
- The problem
- “Our names are random, SKUs are different on Shopify and the spreadsheet, and I’m not sure which barcode belongs to which size.”
- What you get
- On-brand name options checked against your catalog, one consistent SKU scheme (style-color-size), Internal-only Code 128 labels of your SKUs for in-house use, and a master product register tracking name, SKU, code, code type (GS1-licensed or Internal-only), allowed uses, status and dates, with check-digit and duplicate checks on every GTIN you supply.
- What’s included
- Bot profile (system prompt, knowledge and setup, guardrails)
- Prompt set with approval checkpoints
- Naming brief template (.md + .docx)
- SKU scheme rules
- Register columns and checks (incl. GS1 check-digit method, for checking only)
- Working product register workbook (.xlsx: SKU builder, duplicate and check-digit formulas, GTIN checker, names list) + .csv
- Review checklist
- “GS1 barcodes explained” guide (official GS1 sources)
- Barcode image guide
- Platform setup notes (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok Bot, any chat tool)
- Ready-made skill (folder + zip)
- PDF guide
- Illustrative example
- What you’ll need
- Brand bible or voice notes
- Current catalog list (names, SKUs)
- Style/color/size lists
- GTINs GS1 has assigned you (from GS1 US Data Hub or your local GS1 office), if any
How it runs
7 steps- Load voice + catalog
- Approve the SKU scheme onceYour call
- Brief a new style. Bot suggests names and checks the catalog
- You pick the nameYour call
- Bot builds SKUs per variant
- Paste GS1-assigned GTINs (bot checks, never fixes) and/or tag Internal-only Code 128 labels
- You review the register before it touches your store or labelsYour call
Your call marks a step where you review and decide. Nothing moves on without you.
Estimated time: ~20 min to set up the scheme. ~5 min per new style.
Starter prompts
- Suggest 5 on-brand names for {style} and check them against my catalog
- Build SKUs for {style} in {colors} and {sizes}
- Validate these GTINs and add them to my register
Fill in the parts in braces. The full prompt set is in the kit.
Sample output
Names: Harbor · Dune (FLAG: used on a beanie) · Tidewater. SKUs: MP-CRD07-OAT-S/-M/-L. GTIN check: M fails the check digit, re-copy from GS1 US Data Hub. L [MISSING - license from GS1]. I won’t create one. Pop-up label: Internal-only Code 128 of MP-CRD07-OAT-L.
Produced by a manual walk-through of the prompt, not a platform test. It will be replaced with real output after a test run.

Questions people ask
Can the bot just give me a barcode number?
No, and no honest tool should. A GTIN (the number in a UPC barcode) has to be licensed from GS1 so it’s unique and linked to your company. GS1 US sells single GTINs and Company Prefixes. The guide explains both, with the prices GS1 US showed on 17 October 2026.
Can I buy cheap barcodes from another website?
GS1 says numbers sold by other parties may not be in the GS1 database, or may still be linked to whoever first licensed them, and GS1 doesn’t allow GTINs to be resold. GS1 also says many marketplaces check GTINs against its database. Go to GS1 US, or your local GS1 office.
What’s an Internal-only code?
A plain Code 128 barcode of your own SKU, for your stock counts, hang-tags and pop-up till. It isn’t a GTIN, so it won’t work on listings that require one.
Does the bot check trademarks?
No. It only checks your own catalog for clashes. Run a trademark search before you launch a name.
Which AI tool should I use?
Whichever you already use. ChatGPT (with a Project), Claude (with a Project or skill), Gemini (with a skill) and Grok Bot are marked compatible. Any chat tool is adapted, because your register stays in your own sheet. None has had a verified test run yet. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and the any-chat-tool route work on free plans. Grok Bot needs a SuperGrok or Cursor plan.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes, for your own brand. The license covers one business. Please don’t resell or republish it, or use it for client work.
